Night Walks Along the River
Oil and cold wax on canvas. 60" x 48".
This large-scale abstract painting is inspired by walks along the Speed River in Guelph, when flashes of lights and colors from the opposite shore shine through the dark of the trees, and flowers and vegetation are illuminated on the near bank.
Some of the colours are revealed by scrapping away the layer of blue-black cold wax that was layered over an underpainting full of colour. Other colours are applied over top to create a surface with bold and subtle colour transitions.
