Portals

These small scale paintings (cold wax on board) are distillations of skies and geological features. The inspiration began during a road trip in the southwestern of America - driving under the endless skies, past layered mesas and far off horizons to - among other destinations - The Grand Canyon, The Petrified Forest and The Painted Desert. The sky continued to inspire upon return to Ontario, especially the gradations of brilliant colours during the rising and setting of the sun - with a bit of geometric hardedge abstraction and op art thrown in.

The sizes vary from 4 inches square to 9 inches by 12 inches. Each painting is made with oil paint in cold wax on board.
